# Recording in Portrait Mode While the 16:9 ratio is the still standard today, it doesn't make a lot of sense to publish at videos on TikTok in that same format. Recording in 9:16 can be confusing, but really all the rules of cinematography still apply despite the ratio. # Using an Overlay I am using several overlays when I record, here's an example: ![[Alignment 1.png]] ## 1. Black Bars (Vertical) It's important to be able to visualize what your video is going to look like in Portrait (9:16), the black bars will help you to do just that. ## 2. Safe Area Let's say you're watching a video on TikTok, you notice that on top of that video are several buttons, a search bar, a title and a description, etc... You have to mind those when making a video, because they might hide important elements you're trying to show. This Rectangle is safe for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram. Composition Guides These will come very helpful when you need to align things together, well... compositing (I won't be making a tutorial on composition, well not yet at least)
